From Start To Furnish

Please enjoy my musings on all things interior design!

What I'm Loving Lately

Hey, guess what?  I'm not just an interior designer!  What!?  Yes, it's true.  And when I'm out in the real world, it's very difficult to turn my interior design brain off.  Everything I see wherever I go, sinks in and influences.  Case in point..on my recent trip to Vegas for market...while not at Home Furnishings Market, but in the stall in the ladies room at Paris Las Vegas (too much information?).  I loved the tile on the wall and couldn't help but whip out my phone to snap a pic.
So here's what's in my wheelhouse that I'm loving now.

I'm Loving Gold

Gold chandeliers at a showroom at Las Vegas Market last week.

Polished brass of years past gave people a bad taste for gold tones, but gold is back with a vengeance in everything from lighting to furniture.  This is not rose-gold that tried to go from our beloved jewelry to furnishings with not much success.  This is a true gold color.  Mixed with black and other metal finishes, gold contributes a bright and timeless appeal.  I saw it in every showroom at Las Vegas Market last week.

I'm Loving Wallpaper

Wallpaper gets a bad rap.  Memories of big flowers covering a room and removal horror stories turned some folks off.  Wallpaper is and has been back for quite a few years.  There's so much new and different in beautiful wallcoverings to add dimension and texture to your walls and rooms.  Metallics (hmmm, there's gold again) and graphic designs are in the forefront and I'm loving them.

I'm loving the texture of grasscloth and silk wallcoverings.  These products, although a little pricier, are truly timeless.

I'm Loving 70's

No, not avocado green appliances. But I'm seeing subtle additions of some of the best design elements of my formative years.  Such as bright colored velvets.  A little bit of shag.  Not the wall-to-wall hot pink carpet that required raking of my teenage bedroom.  I'm just seeing a little texture in rugs.  I hope design doesn't revert to avocado green and harvest gold appliances, similar warm yellows and unique greens are popular in glassware and art.  And along with the aforementioned gold, brass accents add that 70's vibe.  I'm excited about the best of the 70's returning in newer and better forms as I see those design styles as classic and timeless.
I think of the iconic Anatole Hotel in Dallas that was built in the late 70's.  I remember my parents taking me there.  And I've returned many times.  It is timeless in its modern elegance.

I'm Loving Chandeliers

I don't know where to start!  There are so many unique items to choose from in any style.  Here's gold again!  And some new takes on 70's modern style.  And round drum shades lined in gold added to crystal chandeliers.  I'm loving them all and want to include these unique styles in my designs.

I Love Throwing Things Away

Yep, that's what I'm into.  The more I acquire, the more I want to eliminate to a clean chic style.  Just a fine-tuned room with a place for everything and everything in its place.  If you're loving this idea and need a little help getting started I recommend the book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up".

What are you loving lately?  Share with me.  Let's hang out on Facebook and talk about it.
