My Love List
All right, all right, I'm going to spill the beans - I'm NOT just a one-woman show over here at Ambiance.
I have access to so many products and services. There's no way I could do what I do without my support team of tradesmen and vendors. It's true - no interior designer is an island.
These are my "go-to"s for helping me make the magic happen for my clients.
Lighting and Plumbing
When I help someone with a new construction or major remodeling project, one of our first stops is with Sawyer Lewis at Elliott Electric. Sawyer stays up to date with all of the trends and technical details to help accomplish my lighting needs for a space.
Currently, Sawyer and I are crushing on LED for its energy efficiency and perfect color rendering. To top off all of that knowledge, Sawyer has the most amazing bubbly personality. It's always a good time with her, even when we're working. (We are also sisters in love for bling, but we won't make you do that if bling is not your thing. Promise!)
One of our other first tasks on a new construction or remodel is shopping for plumbing fixtures. I've told you in other posts about not shopping at the big box stores for these products. It's not the same thing as the local plumbing showroom and it's not going to save you money.
Dwayne Schinn, at Coburn Supply, is my go-to for plumbing. Dwayne is a licensed plumber (although he doesn't work on that side of the industry anymore) so he understands how things function and can help pick the best, longest-lasting fixtures. The positive thing about his perspective is his unique insight into all of the products. I can help my clients select the style of fixtures for their project, and Dwayne helps us with the technical stuff. He will shoot you straight on what lines are great and which ones to steer away from. That's vital information. And he has a lovely comfortable new showroom in which to spend this decision-making time.
Janet and I have partnered on countless projects in over 10 years together and we've refined it to a super-efficient team. Janet has years of experience in fabrication and installation of custom window treatments and upholstery. I have actually had a client weep for joy when their custom draperies were installed!
And Janet is a Hunter-Douglas dealer so we're covered for shutters and blinds by the best in hard treatments. Janet is a couple of years older than me, but not to worry, I've threatened her against retirement. She'll be bringing her years of experience to my projects for years to come.
Tile and Flooring
Also in this process, we're going to be visiting Whitney Younts at East Texas Carpets. Sammy Clifton, the owner, has been in this business for many years. I'm sure he's floored and re-floored more local homes and businesses than he can count. Sammy's good people. And Whitney keeps the showroom stocked with all the latest choices. This is another fun stop. I love seeing the new tiles Whitney is always getting in.
If you've been following my work and my blog posts, you know that I love wallcovering. If you haven't considered it lately, I invite you to stop by my studio and let me show you some of the newer samples. Although I shop other lines, I find Thibaut to be extensive in styles.
I could go on and on about all of the new beautiful textures and patterns. Wallcovering adds another dimension of texture, pattern, and color that I encourage my clients to explore. It makes all the difference in the outcome. Come take a look.
If the walls are not going to be covered with a fabulous wall covering, I definitely want to choose a fabulous paint. I love color and paint color selection and color palettes for a project are one of my favorite duties. Benjamin Moore has been my go-to selection for lo these 35 years. They have an incredible color selection and their quality is unsurpassed.
When I begin paint color selection for a project, Benjamin Moore's Historical Collection is where I start the search. Be certain to visit my post concerning their color of the year, Shadow. I'm happy that I haven't yet repainted my office as I've been planning because Benjamin Moore has come out with a new collection that I'm anxious to see and I'm going to give it a go in my office. It is the Century collection. The company describes it as:
Century is the world's first Soft Touch Matte Finish paint with a never-before-seen depth of color and a soft touch finish.
Pretty sure Century Cobalt will be my new office color.
