A Quick Fix For Your Living Room
Is your living room blah, boring, or uninspiring? You don't want to go home to that place that isn't welcoming you!
Guess what? You don't have to put miles on your car driving around town. You don't have to bankrupt your pocketbook at the mall. You don't have to get fat hanging out in restaurants. You don't have to do these things to avoid going home because your living room makes you sad. I'm going to give you a quick fix to make your living room a place you dream about all day because you can't wait to get back there.
Re-arrange the furniture! If you read last week's blog post, you know I love space planning; planning the area to maximize its efficiency for your goals. Three simple steps to get there.
Think, Plan, and Lift
Ideally, the first step to getting the room you love is to empty it. Then you're going to study the room and come up with your priorities of what you want this room to accomplish. For example, it may be to enjoy television with your family. It may be to entertain friends. It may be to develop a cozy sanctuary. Whatever it is, that's your priority.
Next, you're going to find the focal point. That is the central area of the room where you want all of the attention. That may be the television or the fireplace or the awesome view of the backyard.
Lift Your Way To Happiness
Now, in a super-critical and discerning manner, you are going to bring the furniture back. While you're doing this, you need to decide if certain pieces are not adding to the goal. You may not need them at all, or they may need to be replaced with something that better accomplishes the vision. Everything should be arranged with your focal point in mind. Your focal point is the center of this arrangement. Just don't bring anything in that doesn't accomplish the vision.
That's it! Super simple, right? Of course, there's more you can do. You might need to paint. You might need to do a little shopping. But the quick fix is re-arrange the furniture. At the very least, it will get you on your way. Now you love your room and can't wait to get back to it.
